A truly unique plant. The welwitschia mirabilis is a monotypic genus (only one species) endemic to the Namib and southern Angolan deserts. The two leaves grow continuously throughout its lifespan, which is believed to be between 400 and 600 years. Some specimens are believed to be approximately 2000 years old.
These seeds are susceptible to damping off (dying from fungal growth), so it is recommended that a fungicide is used. Additionally, a loose, large grained, 100% inorganic growing medium should be used. This will allow air flow and reduce excessing water retention.
